Hand-woven Harris Tweed = Winter Protection
For centuries – long before the industrial revolution – the islanders of Lewis and Harris have used the wool from their hardy sheep to hand weave and dye a uniquely durable cloth: Harris Tweed.
The good news: genuine Harris Tweed remains virtually indestructible, waterproof, dense and warm.
The bad news: it’s often heavy, stiff and scratchy.
We eliminated the bad news by searching for and sourcing an updated genuine Harris Tweed that keeps the good properties, while adding suppleness and a wearable weight.
Harris Tweed is too warm for wearing indoors. But used in a topcoat: GENIUS! Our Harris Tweed, which we’ve dubbed, The Highlander, is windproof, toasty and comfortable.
We cut The Highlander topcoat with a trim silhouette that allows room for a blazer or sweater (not that you’ll need one). Then we broadened the collar slightly so that you can turn it up against a gale and pair it with a scarf. Finally, we added elbow patches, since these are the only spots you might ever wear out on this topcoat.
It’s one damn fine coat for wearing to work or into the highlands when you’re searching out the best single malt.
