Last week, we talked about the conundrum of “business casual,” which is practically an oxymoron and impossible to pin down.
So while some work where ironic fan t-shirts and torn jeans are ubiquitous, most of us don’t.
Here are three guidelines that we follow for “Classic Casual” at CMMP:
1. Take a cue from your boss and clients – they want to feel comfortable with you. Look like them – and maybe just a little better.
2. Wear a collared, buttoned, long-sleeve shirt; it’s your most versatile bet. When things are a little formal, tuck it in and button up. When it’s more casual move the shirttail out and roll up your sleeves.
3. Wear trousers or jeans that look new, trim and neat. Frayed cuffs, torn knees and “worn treatments” may look good in GQ, but they’re one step away from a demotion in the workplace.
We’re big fans of our True Strength collared shirt. With hidden collar buttons you can neaten it up or let the collar spread for more casual environments. It works for work in oxfords, checks or subtle stripes.
